What Is Enduring Power of Attorney in Israel<\/b><\/h4>\n

Enduring power of attorney, referred to as <\/span>yipuy coakh mitmashekh <\/span><\/i>in Hebrew, is also commonly called a lasting or continuing power of attorney in English.\u00a0 It is a document granting authority to a third party to make personal, financial and legal decisions on one\u2019s behalf in the event that one becomes mentally unfit to make their own decisions.\u00a0 The person(s) appointed power of attorney is called <\/span>meyupeh coakh.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Why It\u2019s Important to Have This Power of Attorney<\/b><\/h4>\n

There are many reasons why it\u2019s important to have an enduring (or continuing) power of attorney in Israel.\u00a0 First, it gives individuals the legal power to set their personal, financial and health preferences for the future. In the event that someone does not choose to appoint a <\/span>meyupeh coakh<\/span><\/i> (and doesn\u2019t have an enduring power of attorney), the Israeli court will decide on a legal guardian (<\/span>apotropus<\/span><\/i>) who will be in charge of the well-being of that individual. Second, it is economical in that it spares the individual and their family conflict during legal proceedings as the family may not agree about who should make the decisions regarding the individual, also saving time and money, avoiding many hours spent in court in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n

Who Can Draft an Enduring Power of Attorney<\/b><\/h4>\n
